A lot of studios quote an hourly rate and leave the rest vague — then the engineer costs extra, or the clock runs on time you didn't use. At AMPED UP AUDIO in El Monte, the deal is stated up front: recording is $40/hour · with engineer included. This post walks through exactly what that covers, how booking works, and what sits outside the hourly rate, so you know the whole picture before you book.

AMPED UP AUDIO has been operating since October 2025. Three services, straight rates, no packages to decode — and this is the first one most artists use: tracking a record in the room.

What's included in the hour

Recording: $40/hour · with engineer

Every recording session at AMPED is $40/hour with engineer included. Mixing stays flat and separate: $100 for a 2-track mix, $150 for a full stem mix.

  • An engineer behind the desk for your whole session. The engineer is not an add-on and not billed separately — running the session is part of the rate. You perform; the desk is handled.
  • Tracking in the room. Vocals, instruments, or full sessions — whatever your record needs captured, that is what the booked time is for.
  • The time you booked. Sessions run 1, 2, 3, or 4+ hours, picked on the booking form. A 2-hour session is $80 total at $40/hr with an engineer — the math does not change when you arrive.

That is the whole list, and it is deliberately short. No packages, no bundles, no tiers where the engineer only shows up at the higher price.

What is not part of the hourly rate

Mixing is a separate service, priced flat. Recording captures the performance; mixing is the step after, where the vocals and the music get balanced into the finished record. At AMPED UP AUDIO, a 2-track mix is $100 and a full stem mix is $150 — the same flat prices whether you recorded here or bring in files from somewhere else. If you are deciding between the two, we broke it down in 2-Track Mix vs. Full Stem Mix. Knowing this split up front is how you budget a full song honestly: session time at $40/hr with an engineer, plus the mix that matches your files.

How booking a session works

  • Step 1 — Send the request. Use the booking form: pick your service, your day, and your start time. Have a promo or referral code? It goes on the form.
  • Step 2 — The studio confirms your time. The studio checks the calendar against your request and confirms your session time with you directly. A form submission is a request, not a confirmed appointment.
  • Step 3 — Lock it with the deposit. A $40 deposit via Zelle — your first hour — locks the confirmed session.

Running late happens, so there is a 20-minute grace period. After that, a $20 late fee applies, and session time is not extended for late arrival — the hour you booked is the hour on the clock.

When the room is open

Late nights are the point here. The studio runs hours built for artists who work during the day:

  • Monday: 12:00 PM – 2:00 AM
  • Tuesday: 5:00 PM – 2:00 AM
  • Wednesday: 7:00 PM – 2:00 AM
  • Thursday: 7:00 PM – 2:00 AM
  • Friday – Sunday: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM and 9:00 PM – 2:00 AM
